Meet the Band

John Schade

The main drive to perform comes from band leader John Schade whose lead vocals are "easy on the ears". Talent for music is only one aspect because John is an excellent stone mason creating beautiful patios, walkways, fireplaces and chimneys for the past 30 years. His roots in Virginia and love for music of all kinds fuel his passion to perform and to write about home, the land, and memories of family. Always the hard working type, John keeps the band focused and practicing regularly, digging up new tunes to learn and challenging each of the band members to grow and play as well as possible.   ::

Hershall Seals

Hershall met John over 20 years ago here in Belton and began their friendship over some guitar picking and chimney cleaning. By day, Hershall is a Professor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he has taught Art for the past 20 years. When he isn’t at school, he divides his time between restoring his old house and playing the guitar. His favorite tunes are folk and old-time music. Hershall also coordinates the Belton Acoustic Concerts (beltonconcerts.com) where the Schade Tree Band has evolved into the house band. ::

Gloria Holle

Gloria, the fellow’s favorite fiddler, also furnishes other functions as she multi-tasks on the guitar, mandolin, and bass. She also provides the pleasing and refreshing female voice on many beautiful tunes and as the magical third tone of the Schade Tree Band’s signature three-part harmonies. She has served as the Director of an Early Childhood Intervention program for Bell and surrounding Counties for many years and is every bit as sweet and genuine as she is talented.  ::

Willis Patton

Willis plays the electric bass and delights audiences with his blues style harmonica and vocals and, of course, delivers jokes as only Willis can uniquely tell. As he regularly re-defines the meaning of humor, Willis enlivens and energizes every performance with compelling witticisms sprinkled along the way. Playing the bass and fishing have been his main creative outlets balancing his long career with the Texas Highway Department. He and John have played music together for longer than you can count on all fingers and toes.  ::
